From left, Packers rookies Kirk Phares, Joe Gomes and Jack Ashton look at the bulletin board in the team's dormitory at St. Norbert College in De Pere as training camp opens in July 1960. Phares,a guard, was a seventh-round draft pick. Gomes, a halfback, was a 17th-round pick. Ashton, a guard, was a 23rd-round pick in 1958. All three played at South Carolina. None made the Packers.
